What Are Tech Days?
Tech Days are sponsored by the Council of Information Services Directors (CISD) to inform and educate state-wide IT staff of new technologies and how to implement them. Speakers are brought in to address topical subject matter including advanced networking, database, programming, security, storage, disaster recovery, and a host of related topics. Potential Tech Day speakers are carefully vetted to ensure that their presentation is technical and not sales oriented.
Presentations range from relatively simple topics that view policy, issues, and problems through a lens of generalized technological solutions to detailed, hands-on installation, configuration, and use of complex software and hardware. One to three presentations are scheduled every month. IT professionals are informed of upcoming topics via this Website and email sent to the CISD listserve, the OIT-Notification listserve, and to the email addresses of past attendees. Up-coming Tech days are announced 2-8 weeks in advance so IT professionals can arrange their schedules to attend.
Tech Days are generally half day events held in the morning unless a highly technical subject or hands on demonstration is planned, which might run all day. The programs usually run from 9:00 AM until Noon, with sign-in and breakfast at 8:30 AM. Most Tech Days are held downtown in Capital Park conference rooms near where we have the largest concentration of state IT professionals. Most are held at facilities within walking distance of state government agencies in the Capital Park.
The best way to understand Tech Days is to find one on the calendar that you are interested in and sign up to attend. It’s free. We hope to see you at the next Tech Day.
